The Viña Ardanza Solidario philanthropic programme, promoted by Grupo La Rioja Alta, S.A. since 2007, has announced the recipients of the €160,000 that the Haro winery will contribute during 2023 to fund agricultural cooperation projects in developing countries.
After an in-depth study of the more than twenty applications submitted to the call opened on January 1, the Allocation Committee led by board member Maite de Aranzabal finally opted for five proposals, three in Burkina Faso, one in Haiti and one in Chad, promoted by the Spanish NGOs Fundación Religiosos para la Salud, Asociación Proyde, Fundación Oxfam Intermón, Nazioarteko Elkartasuna-Solidaridad Internacional and ACNUR Navarra.
They are five very interesting initiatives developed in three countries with very high poverty levels that will work intensively to improve the livelihoods of local communities. According to Maite de Aranzabal “the goal of the Allocation Committee is to achieve self-sustainable projects over time every year”. To this end, proposals should include (even if in the long term) training, cultivation, storage, processing and marketing. We highly value entrepreneurship in order to create microenterprises or associations that allow us to lay solid foundations for the future.”
With this new contribution, the Viña Ardanza Solidario social responsibility programme is close to reaching the key figure of 2 million euros allocated to co-funding projects, which are always agricultural. This amount comes from 1% of the group’s annual net profits, with a guaranteed minimum of €100,000 each year, and always incremented by individual contributions of winery directors, shareholders and employees.
