Torre de Oña proudly announces the highly anticipated launch of El Camino 2021, the first wine from its innovative Viñedos Artesanales project. Initiated in 2021, this endeavor represents a firm commitment to preserving and restoring historic vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, many of which were at risk of disappearing, in order to craft exclusive wines that capture the essence of traditional viticulture.

El Camino 2021 originates from a small 1.54-hectare vineyard with vines over 80 years old, located in privileged sites in Elvillar de Álava. Its meticulous production follows strict quality standards, from the hand harvest in 20 kg crates to fermentation and aging in 500-liter French oak barrels. The result is a wine of remarkable complexity, depth, and elegance, already awarded 100 points by Guía Proensa and Vivir el Vino, as well as the prestigious VID Award for Best Packaging.

This launch marks a milestone not only for Torre de Oña but also for the region’s viticulture, as the Viñedos Artesanales project is dedicated to reviving small bush-trained vineyards, seamlessly integrated into the landscape and cultivated using sustainable practices. These are hard-to-access plots with extremely limited yields, featuring native varieties such as Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Garnacha, and Viura, which impart a distinctive and singular identity to the wines.

El Camino 2021 also stands out for its innovative presentation. Each of the 3,680 numbered bottles incorporates an actual piece of vine shoot from its vineyard of origin, making each one a unique artifact encapsulating the history and soul of the estate. This handcrafted detail, along with its artisanal packaging, earned the wine the A Crear Award for Best Packaging, further reinforcing its exceptional character.

With this first release, Torre de Oña embarks on an exciting journey where tradition and innovation merge to create wines of extraordinary excellence. El Camino 2021 is now available for distributors and customers, marking the beginning of a new era for terroir-driven winemaking in Rioja Alavesa.
