La Semana Vitivinícola extols Gran Reserva 890 and its author, Julio Saenz

La Rioja Alta, S.A. can be doubly congratulated. The 2022 Guía de Vinos y Aceites recently published by La Semana Vitivinícola, the oldest Spanish–language wine industry magazine, chose Julio Sáenz as Best Winemaker and the 2010 Gran Reserva 890 as Best Wine from among the more than 1,600 Spanish wines rated by its tasting committee.

At the presentation of both awards in Valencia, Salvador Manjón, Director of SeVi, highlighted “the magnificent work” carried out by the head winemaker of the Haro winery since 2005 in “interpreting the vintages to perfection and achieving a great classic expression in the wines of La Rioja Alta, S.A.”

An outstanding example is undoubtedly the 99 points achieved by the 2010 Gran Reserva 890, the highest rating in the competition’s twelfth edition, for an “elegant and telluric” wine that stands out “for its great presence in the mouth, with freshness, typicity and tension, for its velvety tannins and for being complex, round and looking to a long life ahead.”

Thus, this extraordinary vintage of the most exclusive wine of La Rioja Alta, S.A. adds another great recognition, after being recently designated as the Best Rioja Wine in the 2023 Peñín Guide. All this in a year in which the Stantion District House has also been proclaimed ‘fourth among world’s most admired brands’ by Drinks International magazine and received the ‘Highest Climber’ medal, after climbing forty-six places in the top 50 global brands list.
