Since 1890, we have worked to integrate environmentally friendly practices into every aspect of our operations, protecting the natural resources that define the quality of our wines. Here’s how we approach sustainability in the vineyard, the winery, and the community.
Sustainability in the Vineyard
Our 900 hectares are cultivated with integrated production methods, minimizing chemical use through natural alternatives like insect shelters, biotechnological traps, and ground cover. We plant vineyards at elevations above 800 meters to adapt to climate change, preserving the freshness and acidity essential to our wines.
Organic viticulture is a priority, with free-roaming horses and cows fostering biodiversity, while bat colonies provide natural pest control. Additionally, our "Artisanal Vineyards" project focuses on reviving century-old vines, safeguarding the heritage of Rioja Alta.
Clean Technology in the Winery
Our wineries prioritize energy efficiency and emission reduction, featuring solar panels, biomass systems, and advanced heat recovery technology. We use sustainable oak barrels and recycle 100% of our tin capsules and FSC-certified corks. Water conservation and LED lighting further reduce our environmental impact.
Social and Economic Impact
Through Viña Ardanza Solidario, we’ve contributed over €2 million to agricultural projects in developing countries. This initiative reflects our dedication to giving back and supporting communities through sustainable agriculture.
Our Vision for the Future
Torre de Oña, our Rioja Alavesa winery, is a member of the Old Vine Conference and is already certified under the Wineries for Climate Protection program, a recognition that has also just been awarded to our Haro winery, La Rioja Alta, S.A. As a proud signatory of the “Toast to a Sustainable Tomorrow” manifesto, we reaffirm our leadership in the transition to eco-friendly winemaking.
