Torre de Oña Receives the Environmental Recognition Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection

Torre de Oña has recently become the first winery in our group to obtain the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certification. This recognition highlights our strong commitment to sustainable practices in viticulture and winemaking by implementing measures to minimize the environmental impact of our activities: reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, water management, waste reduction, and energy efficiency.

In the case of our winery located in Páganos (Álava), some of the main actions include, among others:

- Vegetative Cover in the Vineyard: 30% of the vineyards have vegetative cover, which sequesters up to 6.5 metric tons of CO2 per hectare per year and protects the soil from erosion.

- Weather Stations and Precision Phytosanitary Control: We have installed weather stations connected to digital platforms to model the cycle of fungal diseases, allowing precise decisions on phytosanitary treatments and reducing the use of chemicals.

- Biological Pest Control: We use biotechnological and ecological methods for pest control, in addition to installing shelters for beneficial microfauna.

- Sustainable Agriculture: We use light machinery to work the vineyards superficially, reducing fuel consumption.

- Renewable Energy: We have installed photovoltaic panels and solar thermal systems in the group’s wineries, generating part of our energy in a renewable manner.
