Viña Alberdi awarded “Sustainable Wine Product of the Year”

La Rioja Alta, S.A. is pleased to announce that its wine Viña Alberdi has recently been named ‘Sustainable Wine Product of the Year’ at the prestigious Global Drinks Intel ESG Awards 2025

The jury especially highlighted the ecological innovation behind Viña Alberdi: from its new lightweight bottle format (reduced from 540 g to 440 g), 100% recycled tin capsule, and the use of natural cork that fosters biodiversity and captures CO2, to FSC-certified labels and water-based inks. In addition, 30% of the group’s vineyards already employ cover crops, and solar-energy, biomass and heat-recovery systems have been implemented.

All of this forms part of an ambitious replanting and new-planting program covering more than 80 hectares across the group’s four wineries — La Rioja Alta, S.A., Torre de Oña, Áster and Lagar de Fornelos. These initiatives are conceived with sustainability, environmental respect and technical innovation at their core, reinforcing a proprietary and responsible viticultural model.

For La Rioja Alta, S.A., this recognition represents yet another endorsement of its commitment to regenerative viticulture, low-impact production design and its ambition to lead the sector in sustainability and fidelity to the landscape. The award confirms that wine quality and environmental stewardship can — and must — go hand in hand.

This accolade is the result of decades of work, innovation and respect for the vineyard and the land. It motivates us to continue raising our standards in every area, stated the winery’s leadership team.

With Viña Alberdi as one of its great international ambassadors, the century-old winery of Haro reaffirms its dedication to wines that not only captivate the senses, but also embody values of transparency, responsibility and excellence.
