La Rioja Alta, S.A. presents the 2019 vintage of Viña Ardanza, an extraordinary year on par with the best of the 21st century, further strengthening the greatness of this emblematic wine.
La Rioja Alta, S.A. has just announced the release of the new 2019 vintage of its most iconic wine, Viña Ardanza, which continues to solidify its status as an international benchmark for great Rioja wines. Following a short vintage in 2017 and the decision not to produce Viña Ardanza in 2018, the renowned winery from Haro’s Barrio de la Estación is now presenting an extraordinary vintage, already awarded 94 Parker points and officially rated as "Excellent".
Julio Sáenz, the winery’s head winemaker, highlights the greatness of this vintage:
"This is one of the best vintages in our history—possibly on the level of 2001, 2010, or 2015—marking the culmination of an extraordinary decade for Viña Ardanza. We have created a wine of remarkable complexity and aging potential. I believe this Viña Ardanza will see the greatest evolution in the coming years.”
The new Viña Ardanza 2019 remains true to its signature blend, with 80% Tempranillo sourced from estate-owned vineyards over 30 years old in Fuenmayor and Cenicero (Rioja Alta), and 20% Garnacha from La Pedriza estate (Tudelilla, Rioja Oriental), located at an altitude of 550 meters, where the vines have now reached optimal maturity to produce grapes of extraordinary quality.
The meticulous aging process took place in handcrafted American oak barrels, lasting 36 months for the Tempranillo and 30 months for the Garnacha, with five manual rackings by candlelight to ensure exceptional purity.
With the arrival of this outstanding vintage, Viña Ardanza 2019 expresses an exquisite balance of fruit character, freshness, elegance, complexity, and structure. These qualities will captivate both longtime enthusiasts of this iconic Rioja brand and new consumers eager to enjoy a spiced, balsamic, well-structured wine with remarkable depth. In essence, this vintage marks yet another step forward in the evolution of the celebrated and unmistakable "Viña Ardanza style", a brand that has been delighting wine lovers worldwide for over eight decades.
