The Galician winemaker Olga Verde has been appointed as the new Technical Director of Lagar de Fornelos winery, located in O Rosal (Pontevedra). She takes over following the retirement of Ángel Suárez, who for over thirty years has been the heart and soul of the winery, which produces the renowned brands Lagar de Cervera, Pazo de Seoane, and the recently launched and highly successful Lindeiros.
Olga Verde holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering, Enology, and an MBA. She began her career in the wine world in 2007, working harvests across both hemispheres (Madrid, Chile, New Zealand). She also gained experience as a sommelier for several years to deepen her knowledge of international wines before moving on to Terra Alta and later Bierzo, where she also served as Director of the Bierzo Enotourism Association.
In addition to Verde's leadership in winemaking, the team will be strengthened by fellow Galician Rubén de Castro, an Agricultural Engineer with a Master’s in Plant Health. De Castro will oversee viticulture, managing the winery’s 106 hectares of estate vineyards (88 in O Rosal and 18 in O Salnés), primarily planted with Albariño grapes, alongside recent plantings of native varieties such as Loureiro, Caiño Blanco, Treixadura, and, in this campaign, Godello.
Both approach this new chapter with great enthusiasm and responsibility, working under the guidance of Grupo La Rioja Alta, S.A.'s Technical Director, Julio Sáenz, and Director of Viticulture, Roberto Frías. Together, they aim to lead one of the most iconic and internationally recognized wineries in the Rías Baixas D.O.
